The Elegant Angler

One of our most exotic and outrageously beautiful birds, the kingfisher is a favourite of every painter. In this portrait, I wanted to capture the poise and perfect stillness of this most expert of anglers.
Fun fact: male kingfishers (like this one) have an all-black bill while the female has a reddish streak on the lower mandible.
